CONTINUOUS VAPOR BARRIER SYSTEMTJB Homes features a Continuous Vapor Barrier system which is built-in during the actual framing of each home. This is a clear advantage over other builders who simply add a poly vapor after framing resulting in an unprotected wall and ceiling intersections. At TJB Homes, our carpenters are trained to properly install these Continuous Vapor Barriers so that the insulation contractors can continue the poly with built-in overlaps. They then tape each and every seam to create a seal, a "plastic bag effect", to completely seal out cold drafts. CAULK & SEAL FOAM In every house, there are many by-passes created by electrical outlets, ceiling fixtures, ventilation and plumbing pipes that need to be sealed in oder to keep drafts out. At TJB Homes, we foam, seal or caulk each and every small hole where drafts can enter. For example, cold air can follow the electrical wires down from the attic and enter the house through the electrical outlet. To eliminate this, we not only foam the wire holes at the outlet, but we take the extra step to seal the holes leading to the attic where the wire penetrates the inner seal of the house. This important process is a critical step and final step in the energy efficient building process, truly defining the Continuous vapor Barrier concept. VANEE AIR EXCHANGE SYSTEM (Optional On Some Plans) TJB Homes feature high quality heat recovery ventilation systems. These modern, energy efficient systems provide a continuous supply of fresh air to the house, while controlling the rate at which the house breathes. Odors, pollutants, and excess humidity are controlled, helping to provide a comfortable, healthier living environment.
MAXIMUM CEILING INSULATIONTo achieve the optimum in heating and cooling efficiency, TJB Homes installs R-50 insulation in the ceiling of every house, providing the maximum value and efficiency for the dollar. While the State of Minnesota requires at least an R-38 rating, and many builders will increase to a R-42, TJB Homes goes above and beyond the local industry standards with ceiling insulation rated at R-50. This higher insulation value, along with the continuous vapor barrier helps achieve the highest degree of energy efficiency.
MAXIMUM WALL insulationWhile the industry standard rating for insulation in 2 X 6 walls is R-19, TJB Homes exceeds this standard by installing R-21 high density batt insulation, resulting in a 14% greater R-value. While many builders simply apply a styrofoam layer in the exterior of the basement block, TJB Homes builds a 2 X 4 interior walls with R-11 batt insulation, resulting in lower levels that are much more comfortable, as well as energy efficient. ANDERSEN WINDOWS TJB Homes features LOW-E high performance, low maintenance Andersen windows in every home. These argon filled windows are one of the top-rated windows in the country, built right here in Minnesota. Use of these highly-efficient windows are an integral part of making TJB Homes the leader in efficiency among local builders. |
