A 'new urbanism' north of citiesDevelopment features man-made five-bay lake In the land of 10,000 lakes, developers couldn't resist squeezing in just one more. Blaine is home to a master planned community: the Lakes. Running southeast from the intersection of NE. Main Street and Radisson Road, the project is quickly building up its 1,000-plus acres of former sod farm. Numerous developments have sprung up in Blaine since the area acquired the National Sports Center and the Tournament Players Club golf course in the 1990s. What sets this planned community apart is its enormous scale and amenities - the most distinctive of which is the geological feat of a man-made five-bay, 160-acre plus lake. Nearly a third of the 3,300 in-tended residences already have been erected since the project started in 2003. While dominated by large, opulent homes, the plans call for 36 percent of the project to be open space. This includes a full third of the shoreline set aside as common area. The housing stock is a blend of types, styles and price points up to $2 million plus for single-family homes.
The Blaine Lakes area has been called the "new Wayzata" because of the beautiful homes on the water. You can play golf at the TPC golf course and can get home in five minutes. ... There are nearby park for kids ... and many new restaurants and shops at the nearby strip malls.
The Lakes is just off 109th Street and Radisson Road. The Lakes plan is elaborate with man-made lakes,
shopping and bridges - a lot of charm put into the planning.
